How do I Replace my Key Fob Battery?
Key fobs run on batteries. While you don’t need the key fob battery to start your car, you do need it for any remote functions or keyless entry function that come with your vehicle. When the battery dies it will need to be replaced. Changing your key fob battery is pretty easy, here are the steps:
1. Open Your Key Remote Fob
Opening the key fob will usually require a micro screwdriver or yellow watch opener tool as seen below. Use the micro screwdriver to remove any screws on the back of the key fob or use the flat head or the yellow tool to pop the remote open.
2. Determine the Battery Type
Once you open the key fob look at the battery inside the remote it will usually have numbers printed on it such as 2032 or 2025 or 2016. Make sure to determine which side the battery must face, + side up or down.
3. Replace the Battery
Now swap out the battery with the new one. Put the battery in the correct position, make sure the positive side is facing the right direction. The inside of the key fob will usually tell you which side to face the positive side of the battery. Gently snap the key fob back together and test the remote buttons, some remotes have little lights which turn red when you press the button. If the red light turns on then you have it in correctly.
